The Lashem Event - A quick sneak peek!

1 Women have something to say Links to this post

So the Lashem event was an awesome experience - It really helped me to realize the reach and influence of WWW - I always knew, but I honestly didn't realize that REAL people follow this blog from across the country and cared enough to meet me in person.  It was an amazing feeling to  have people from LA come up to me, tell me how much they love my blog and talk about specific posts that I put up that have inspired them in some way.  It literally brought me to tears!

This is just one of MANY pictures that were taken at the event.  There was also video of my speech and tonnes of pictures of the people at the event!  Stay tuned!!! They will be up very soon!

PS - I have a bunch of pictures from the Lashem Emmys gifting suite! I met a bunch of celebs that I've been watching on TV for years! It was so cool!

Food: I heart Pinkberry!

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
This recent visit was my third visit to Los Angeles - but it was the first time that I had been in nearly 10 years, so OBVI there have been lots of changes.  Not the least of which was all of the smoothie and frozen yogurt spots on every corner!

I know that Pinkberrry is located all over the US, but I had never been compelled to go until I was in La La land! Maybe it's because of all of the paparazzi photos of Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie going to Pinkberry in LA - I felt that the City of Angels would be the best place to try it!

For those of you that don't know, Pinkberry is a franchise of upscale frozen yogurt restaurants headquartered in Los Angeles, CA (Basically like Yogen Fruz - but like Wayyy better!). You basically choose a flavor of frozen yogurt that can be topped with all sorts of cool fresh fruit or dessert toppings! Not to mention the cool decor of all of their locations!  Check out the pics that I took while I visited!

Have you been to Pinkberry before?? And if so, what's your favorite flavour?

Career: Should You Flirt At Work?

0 Women have something to say Links to this post
This is question is debatable. Some may say that a little flirting can work out in a woman's favour and is an intelligent way to get what you want, while others may stay tight lipped and believe that the office is neither the time or the place. It can go either way.

I read a cute article, called Should You Flirt At Work? and it got me thinking about if flirtung can make or break you in a professional environment.

Nicole Williams, author of Girl on Top says,
"Using flirtation is just smart. If you need someone's help, use the tools available to you. It's naive to think it has no place at work."

Have you ever closed a deal with a little flirtation? Do you think workplace eye-batting is a good idea? why or why not?

Shannae says: I agree - I don't know if I would say that flirting is the right word - but I definitely us my "female" in situations where it is appropriate... No harm in that - but I'm interested in hearing what you all have to say!

VIDEO: My trip to LA - Shopping in Santee Alley!!

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
So I am back from LA and I had a wonderful time!

Yvonne was a wonderful host and showed me a few of her secret shopping spots that she likes to go to when she wants to get a great deal.  The first stop was the wonderful world of Santee Alley - its like a flea market meets the fashion district with rock bottom prices to match!

I swear it was like we were at an auction at times - every step we took, men and women were yelling cinco dollars! cinco dollars! to try and get you to get to come to their booth. And everything was literally $5!! I bought 3 pairs of shoes, a dress, a top and 6 pairs of sunglasses for less than $100 - I felt like I was in heaven!

For those of you that don't know, Santee Alley is located in Downtown Los Angeles - Check out the video that Yvonne, Gregory Gorgeous and I made below...

Cinco Dollahs!! lol

Enjoy

Style: Get Flared this Fall

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
Hey guys! Alessia from Luello.com was kind enough to do this cool blog post for us... Apparently Flared denim is back... what do you think?? I kinda like it!! :)

Alessia's post:

I am all for the fashion trends of yore being made new again. I thank whoever it was in the fashion world for making it okay to wear leggings once again, bringing back the one desirable aspect of ‘80s fashion. Nevertheless, when it comes to the revamping of flared denim, I’m proceeding with caution. I’m still reluctant to let go of my skinny or boot cut jeans to be replaced with the flared variety. In my head, everyone wearing these styles, no matter how chic the fashion rags say they are, are processed by my brain as looking like cast members of either of the following shows:

Charlies Angels
The Brady Bunch

Rock & Revival Boot Cut Denim
William Rast Stella Boot Cut Denim

Just because trend setters like Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham and Nicole Richie are wearing them, it doesn’t mean that you’re ready for this dramatic fashion step. Don’t be disheartened if, while doing your fall shopping, you neglect the flared denim and reach for the skinny jeans. These things take time, and I for one will be letting the more bold fashionistas around me try this trend out before I have a go at it! If you’re not feeling adventurous enough for flared denim just yet, visit Luello.com for denim in more classic silhouettes, by brands like Rock Revival and William Rast

Last month the folks over at Courvoisier Exclusif were kind enough to invite a bunch of Toronto's "tastemakers" out for an intimate Mixology session at the Park Hyatt hotel in Toronto...

In addition to learning more about Cognacs, Courvoisier and how its made, we mixed our own drinks, were entertained by a man on stilts and a team dancers dressed like Lady Antoinette!

This is what a VIRGIN Looks like...

1 Women have something to say Links to this post

So you already know that Yvonne is one of my Go-To-Girls... In fact, I am literally "going-to" her this weekend in LA!!  But what's even more important is that she is a bi-coastal superstar that deserves to become Virgin America's first TORONTO PROVOCATEUR

I honestly can't think of anyone who works harder, wants it more and deserves it more than she does.

12 Things I Wish I'd Known About Love When I Was 21

4 Women have something to say Links to this post

Relationship columnist Erin Manley serves up a healthy dose of advice in this month's issue of GLAMOUR Magazine. Reflecting on her own personal experiences with love and relationships she's complied a list of things that she wished she'd known about love when she was 21.

1. Never underestimate the importance of being "interesting".
2. There's a fine line between teasing a guy a criticizing him.
3. Your wants and needs are just as important as his.
4. Knowing how to cook: helpful/brownie points
5. Sometimes guys flirt with you because it makes them feel good about themselves. (You know we do it too)
6. You will probably never fully understand men. So just try and understand yourself.
7. It's shocking how much men will talk about marriage (with no intention of marrying you).
8. Don't be cynical.
9. Things change once you're naked.
10. Being worshipped isn't all that.
11. We see what we want to see (and ignore the bad signs).
12. Don't compare yourself to your friends.

What's one thing you wish you'd known about love when you were 21??

It was hot in the 80s' and its hot again now! Crop tops or "belly busters" as my mama calls them are in stores everywhere and is one of this seasons hottest trends. If you're feeling creative you can DIY your own crop top by simply cutting any existing tee or tank horizontally about 3-5 inches from the bottom then hemming it.

Sienna, Rhianna, Cassie, Bey, Katy and Whitney love this trend too.
1. Topshop $32
2. Dolce Vita $70
3. Backstage $88
4. 3.1 Phillip Lim $350
5. Rachel Comey $289
Rojas $60/ Donna Mizani $97/ LA Boutique $58/ American Apparel $22

When She Pays The Bills, He'll More Likely Cheat!

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
New research has proved that men who feel financially diminished in relationships are more likely to pursue an affair. In the article called, When she pays the bills, he'll more likely cheat, what was incredibly dominant about this survey were the findings on threatened masculinity. The results illustrated that men who may not fit the traditional role of a breadwinner often seek something else to compensate for his feeling of inadequecy- another woman.

"Men who were completely dependent on their female partner’s income are five times more likely to cheat than men who contribute equally to the household."
In recent years there has been a positive change in the rate of women moving up the corporate ladder, but with the results of this study does this mean that women have to sacrifice a committment for financial stability?

Do you think that it is possible to successfully balance and manage a relationship and career?
