Online dating sites have got some competition!

3 Women have something to say Links to this post

Many of us want love, but seem to be looking around in all of the wrong places- all except the internet! Have you ever considered connecting with your potential soul mate in the virtual world? I'm talking about online dating, now considered the 'newest' and most common dating tool to find love.

In the article called The New Dating Tools: A Card and a Wink, I read about different ways you can connect with someone through the internet. Lori Cheek, a 37 year old architect founded a venture such as Cheek'd which had its debut in May.

"Users receive calling cards to dole out to alluring strangers they encounter in their everyday lives, be it in a club or in a subway on their morning commute. Recipients of the cards can use the identification code printed on them to log onto Cheekd.com and send a message to their admirer. A pack of 50 cards and a month’s subscription to Cheek’d, where users can receive messages and post information about themselves, is $25. There is no fee for those who receive cards to communicate with an admirer through the site."

Each card has a cute message on it which communicates exactly what you really would like to say to your crush! It's a great tool for those who are shy. You simply slip him/her the card and hopefully if they are interested they will find you according to your Cheekd.com information displayed on the surface.

Most find this way to be beneficial because it's faster, more organic and less formal. Companies such as Match.com and eHarmony.com definitely have competition as more and more online dating site arise and are trying to advance technology-based love connections because it's easy, fast, and best of all exciting!

What is your opinion about online dating? Have you ever tried it? Would you? or do you think it's just a desperate attempt at finding love?

If you have a story (good or bad) please share!

WWW Recommends Lovelee Affairs @LoveLeeAffairs

1 Women have something to say Links to this post

One of the things that I love most  about what I do is the fact that I get to meet such interesting and inspiring women on a regular basis!  Recently I had the chance to do so (once again) when I met the wonderful ladies of LoveLee Affairs Event Planning  Firm.

Not many of you know this but Shantel Clarke
of Lovelee Affairs was the brainchild behind the beautiful Pink Carpet at SJP YYZ as well as the other event decor concepts that made that night a success. But the work done at SJP YYZ doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of their Wedding/Event Planning Accolades. Operating out of Atlanta AND Toronto, Lovelee has produced several beautiful weddings internationally and comes highly recommended by some of the most respected individuals in the business.

"Meet" the girls below and be sure to check out LoveleeAffairs.com for more info and to see what they've done so far!

WWW talks about Down Low Sistas

6 Women have something to say Links to this post

I was introduced to Clutch Magazine by Shannae earlier this week and came across an interesting article called Down Low Sistas. The title alone caught my interest so I took a browse and surprisingly enough it turned out to be a great read!

I'm sure you all have heard of the 'down low brotha' epidemic (check out the comment section of this post for my personal experience with a down low brotha!) once the word got out that men were living double lives with other men- women from all parts of town thought twice before jumping into relationships, but in this particular piece, Clutch has flipped the script by shedding light on a hush topic that women rarely discuss. Same-sex relationships!

Believe it or not, the same issue has risen with black women aswell. It's all around us, sexuality is more explored than ever, stemming from influences in our everyday lives! So are we actually surprised that women are engaging in same sex relationships and lying about their true sexuality aswell?

"Just as men, you would never know a “DL sista” by her occupation or physical appearance. However, often times, these sistas mask behind their careers, made-up exterior and material possessions to appear normal or as what society deems the traditional make up of a straight woman."

There are many reasons for this kind of deceitful behaviour, but to be frank it seems as if it is just as common as a stuffy nose. Some assume that this 'group' of particular women are confused individuals who experiment in order to find something deeper and steer clear of unnecessary drama while others may assume that they hide behind their 'straight' lives out of fear that they won't be accepted.

I say: Sexuality, whether you are attracted to the same sex or not should be something beautiful- don't hide from it. Embrace it!

What are your thoughts about "DL sistas"?

Meet you in the comment section!

BOOKS: WWW Recommends Faith in the Valley by Ivanla Vanzant

0 Women have something to say Links to this post
Faith in the Valley by award-winning author Iyanla Vanzant is a collection of life lessons written specifically for women. This book is a personal favourite because her thoughts about love and life are inspirational, relatable and best of all beautifully written. It's not your typical novel. This pocket size book contains a personal passage on each page, which makes it easy to flip to any lesson because it doesn't have to be read in sequence.

A few of the lessons I've taken away from this book:

1. How you let someone into your space will determine how they behave once they get there

2. Never feel bad about your growth
3. Take the responsibility of defining yourself

I've given this book as a gift to many of my girlfriends and each one of them agree with me when I say that this pocket size (small enough to keep in your purse) book is a must read!

HAPPY READING LADIES!

Music: Repercussions - LAURYN HILL

2 Women have something to say Links to this post

Could it be????? I mean I've never heard this track before but, could this be the beginning to the come back that so many of us have been longing for?

If this is truly what she sounds like now, our waiting has not been in vain! It's so Lauryn...but, it's the Lauryn that I remember from the late 90's. Not the intricate soul that she has seemed to blossom into of late.

What do you all think? Is this a lost track or a new single?

Either way, I LOVE IT!

Enjoy peeps!

Stay Blessed,

LaToya

Career: Google Me Business Cards

0 Women have something to say Links to this post

Have you ever typed your name into Google to see what comes up? Try it. You may actually be surprised. In the article Use a Pseudonym to Better Control Your Searchable Online Identity, I discovered an effective way to have a little bit more control over what people read about you. It's referred to as a 'Google Me Business Card' and its effective because it influences how people can research you on the Google website and if you have an alias, it's also a great way to get people familiar with your identity as well.

What do you think? Yay or Nay?

New Video: From 'His' Point of View... Got Your Back - TI feat. Keri Hilson

I must say I am happy for TI and Tiny. I think they are a lovely blessed couple.

Advice from Oprah about Men... (I Love this!)

3 Women have something to say Links to this post

These are great words of wisdom from the one and only O!!
(From Nikki Oh's Facebook Blog)

ADVICE FROM OPRAH ABOUT MEN!

If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away.

If he doesn't want you, nothing can make him stay

Stop making excuses for a man and his behaviour

Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache.

Stop trying to change yourself for a relationship that's not meant to be.

Slower is better.

Never live your life for a man before you find what makes you truly happy.

If a relationship ends because the man was not treating you as you deserve then heck no, you can't "be friends. A friend wouldn't mistreat a friend

Don't settle. If you feel like he is stringing you along, then he probably is

Don't stay because you think "it will get better." You'll be mad at yourself a year later for staying when things are not better

The only person you can control in a relationship is you

Avoid men who've got a bunch of children by a bunch of different women. He didn't marry them when he got them pregnant, why would he treat you any differently?

Always have your own set of friends separate from his

Maintain boundaries in how a guy treats you

If something bothers you, speak up

Never let a man know everything. He will use it against you later

You cannot change a man's behaviour. Change comes from within.

Don't EVER make him feel he is more important than you are... even if he has more education or in a better job

Do not make him into a quasi-god. He is a man, nothing more nothing less.
Never let a man define who you are.

Never borrow someone else's man. If he cheated with you, he'll cheat on you.

A man will only treat you the way you ALLOW him to treat you.
All men are NOT dogs.

You should not be the one doing all the bending... compromise is two way street.

You need time to heal between relationships...

There is nothing cute about baggage... deal with your issues before pursuing a new relationship.

You should never look for someone to COMPLETE you... a relationship consists of two WHOLE individuals... look for someone complimentary... not supplementary.

Dating is fun... even if he doesn't turn out to be Mr. Right.

Make him miss you sometimes... when a man always know where you are, and you're always readily available to him – he takes it for granted.

Never move into his mother's house.

Never co-sign for a man.

Don't fully commit to a man who doesn't give you everything that you need.

Keep him in your radar but get to know others.

Share this with other women... You'll make someone smile, another rethink her choices, and another woman prepare

BulletGirl Jewelry

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
Bullets symbolize violence but BulletGirl's new line of jewelry shifts the paradigm, transforming bullets into symbols of inner strength, personal conviction, and an unflinching affirmation of self.

The woman who wears BulletGirl is able to see beauty in all things, isn't afraid of risk, is secure within herself and understands the importance of balance.  Its the right ammunition of the women who choose to fight back for the right reasons.

I absolutely loooove this concept!! Check out some items from their collection below and don't forget to check out their entire collection here.

New Music: Sign Your Name Across My Heart - Sheryl Crow feat. Justin Timberlake

Sheryl Crow (feat. Justin Timberlake) - Sign Your Name (Terence Trent D'Arby Cover) by mixtapemaestro

When I saw the title, I was so excited to hear what these two did with this amazing song... Now, I respect both Sheryl Crow and Justin Timberlake. as artists but, I think that they should have left this one alone. In comparison to the original, to me, this was a FLOP. I actually think that JT could have killed this remake on his own with his beautiful falsetto.

For those of you who are not familiar with the original and for the rest of us that love reminding, listen to Terence Trent D'Arby's version below.

Which version do you like better?

Stay blessed,

APPLE Opera Store in Paris, FRANCE

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
Now this is an APPLE STORE that I can spend hours in.
It's nothing like the ones around the world. Why? Because it is in Paris, FRANCE.

Named "Apple Opera Store", it is truly one of a kind due to the one year renovation needed to preserve and restore historic architecture.

Inside, the stainless steel layouts and glass windows are replaced by marble floors, wooden doors, arched windows and wrought-iron balcony railings.

All in the effort to match the colors and features of the existing building.
Now, it can almost be considered as a sight-seeing experience!
