In any event, I will be making a conscious effort to continue to bring you that GOOD GOOD!  Because these quotes inspire me, and I hope that they do the same for you...

WWW Recommends: White Oleander by Janet Fitch

The recommendation for this month is called White Oleander by Janet Fitch. This book is about a unique mother-daughter relationship and caught my heart as soon as I delved into the story. A young girl named Astrid experiences a series of foster homes after her mother, Ingrid- a famous poet, is faced with life in prison after poisoning her ex boyfriend.

Later in this page-turning tale, Astrid is faced with a decision that could change both their lives forever and she stands at a cross-road between the love for her mother and the resentment she feels from being abandoned for so many years.

While reading this book, I thought the author used fantastic imagery and poetic phrasing to create a detailed picture in my mind. Parts of this book will make you smile, while other parts might even place a tear in your eye.

One of my favourite quotes from the book:
"Love is temperamental. Tiring. It makes demands. Uses you. Changes its mind."

There were so many passages that kept me on edge; the above piece was one of them. Short, powerful and straight to the point. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

One Year Living As Oprah

It's no secret, Oprah Winfrey is an amazing woman! She has taught thousands of people around the world how to live their best lives, but one woman in particular, Robyn Okrant, made a pact with herself in 2008 to abide by all the advice that the lifestyle guru has dished out on her talk show, magazine and website for one year. She even published a book entitled "Living as Oprah" and if you click the link below in her interview with the Globe and Mail, you can read about her experience and how she felt about her own life after doing this project.

GM: What’s the biggest thing you’ve gained from this project?

RO: I think it is that Oprah always talks about clarity – not sticking your head in the sand when it comes to finances, your health, your relationships. Have I heard that from other sources before? Absolutely. But it was in doing that project that I have felt less incapacitated about certain fears in my life.

GM: Oprah has millions of fans, but you say she doesn’t have a single peer because of her status. Do you think that you’re happier than she is?

RO: Clearly this all conjecture, but I think I have it easier than she has, which is crazy. I’m packing up my tiny apartment, everything is a mess, my cats are going crazy, there’s cat hair everywhere, we’re going to be lugging boxes soon to my new apartment and still, I think I have it easier than she does. I don’t know if I would say happier, but I think I know I would rather have my life than Oprah’s. I think there are times when we all joke, “If I had Oprah’s money things would be much easier. True, true, money would make things much easier. But it doesn’t look like it makes you much happier, frankly.

I say... I think this article is pretty interesting because it raises the issue about how much of an influence Oprah has on a culture of women and believe it or not, some women probably do follow every piece of advice that comes out of her mouth- and whether it has a positive or negative effect, it poses a question about how serious do you take Oprah's advice and can women still maintain a healthy opinion on their own.

WWW Hair Video: Styling Naturally Curly Hair

This one is for all my natural hair divas who love big hair!

This is a low/no heat and low manipulation style! My hair will last like this for 3-4 days (but I usually end up wearing it in a ponytail for the better part of those days).

I like influencing my curls this way because they last much longer. I wrap my head loosely in a high ponytail at night to prolong the look. When I wake up in the morning I will liven up the flattened curls with water and a little bit of mixed chicks leave in conditioner.

Event Recap: Meet Rachel Roy @rachel_roy

I've been a fan of Rachel Roy, for quite some time now, so there was no question that I would be there, front row, center to see the launch of her collection at  The Bay in Toronto...

I attended the event with Yvonne Kai and the photographic genius that is Selina Chan, Selina snapped candids of Yvonne and I while we mixed and mingled in the crowd... In attendance were people like Media Maven and Fashion Icon Suzanne Boyd and Much Music's Sarah Taylor, among others...


Rachel had models roaming the room, donning her Black Collection while we sipped Champaigne...  There was also a mannequin type fashion show on the main floor of Bay...  DJ Lissa Monet on the ones and twos! Sarah Taylor looking stunning and statuesque as usual!   

And below are pics of some of the What Women Want Divas who were out in full effect!

Brazen Hussy Fall Winter 2010 Fashion Show Review

So Pre-Fashion week Fiesta's are out in Full Effect and one of the first events I attended was (obvi) the Brazen Hussy Fashion Show!

I was utterly impressed by their entire Fall/Winter 2010 collection - it was a bit of cocktail chic meets punk rocker with a refined flare...

I honestly loved every item in the show  (and for me that's rare) and what I love the most is that I know the girls personally and have been fortunate enough to watch them grow and evolve into critically acclaimed designers. Its honestly Heart Warming!

 I had great seats for the show!!

I've been a fan of Brazen Hussy for years now and have worn a bunch of pieces from their collection to numerous events. Their clothes are easy to wear, fun, flirty and it doesn't hurt that the Sister Design Team are the cutest ever!
