My favorite looks this week!

Source & Source & Source

Above are my favorite looks this week!

I think that Rihanna and Chloe are tied for first this week with Katy Perry and Kelly Rowland a close second... I was on the fence abut Kim K's baggy pant/shirt look, but it grew on me after a while and I really liked the fact that she pushed the envelope and stayed away from her tight fitting sex kitten look...

Do you agree with my pics this week? And who are your faves?

Relationships: Do you keep your Romantic relationship Private??

17 Women have something to say Links to this post

Shown above are two relationships... one VERY PRIVATE and one VERY PUBLIC. B and Jay keep their situation on lock and don't discuss it with anyone and Kim takes advantage of any opportunity to talk about her relationship on her blog in the media, on the red carpet... you name it... For those of you don't know, Reggie and Kim are in the beginning of what appears will be a very public break up and needless to say, Jay and B are going STRONG...

I have to admit... I am more of a Kim than a Beyonce... I like to hold hands, I love taking pics and dancing together when I'm out.. I pretty much love being in love and it shows... but seeing the demise of all of these public relationships has made me think twice... Not to mention, I've experienced a public break-up first hand... When one of my BF's and I broke up, everyone knew and he started dating someone first and brought her out with him all the time... Boy was that hard! Maybe I should keep things on lock down and let the relationship speak for itself rather than me speak for my relationship...

Ladies? What are your thoughts... I'd love to hear your two cents..

Fashion: Denim Jackets & Vests

5 Women have something to say Links to this post
Don't call it a come back but they're back and better than ever! Growing up everyone had a denim jacket that they loved and refused to put down. If you still have it in the back of your closet or buried somewhere in your basement resurrect it this season!

Amber Rose and Rihanna have been the denim divas this season, never leaving home without a denim jacket on- they could make wearing a paper bag look fierce, but thankfully they haven't started the paper bag princess trend (yet)...

Miss Fenty seems to really love this trend, home girl has a denim jacket for every day of the week!

MY DENIM JACKET PICK...
ASOS Blue Marble Wash Western Denim Jacket £40.00

Miss. What Women Want- Shay rockin' her Denim Jacket!

I'm really feelin denim vests this season too! It's somewhat reminiscent of Nirvana in the early 90's. Lables like Mike & Chris and Citizens of Humanity have put their own twist on this trend. These are my three favs!

mike&chris 'derrell' hooded denim vest $242/ mike&chris 'roner' denim biker vest $265/ citizens of humanity $298

Chanel Iman pairs her vest with a printed mini dress and cowboy boots while Keri and Kim mix their denim vest with tanks and tights- both looks are fab!

Up and coming design duo Phillipe & David Blond aka THE BLONDS were recently featured in one of my favorite magazines (TRACE), and this bustier instantaneously caught my attention! It looks a little dangerous but I'm loving the over-embellished, rocker-esque style!

Celebs like Rihanna, Fergie, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Dita Von Teese and Britney Spears love the glitz and glamour that THE BLONDS put into each of their pieces. A Phillipe and David runway show was also featured on the season finale of Canada's Next Top Model Cycle 3. Here are a couple looks from the show.

What’s the toughest thing you’ve been faced with thus far?

Beauty: I can't live without Honeydipp Coconut Lime Body Lotion

0 Women have something to say Links to this post

I have never been one to plug products that I don't love and use myself and with HoneyDipp Spa products its no different. I honestly and truthfully cannot live without their coconut lime body lotion... it smells soooo good, glides on like buttah, lasts long and is very affordable. When my bff and sister stayed with me this summer, the bottle kept going "missing", when I'm close to running out, I order a few more bottles ASAP and if I happen to run out without placing a new order I get pissed that I have to use something else...

You should definitely try out this cream if you haven't already... it is worth every penny you spend on it.

And because the ladies of HoneyDipp heart all of you, if you enter code WWW at checkout you get 25% off of your purchase.

WWW Career Tip: Don't Give Away Your Ideas!!

3 Women have something to say Links to this post

This story is all too common in the workplace. A woman has an idea, she expresses it and the idea gets ignored. A Man expresses the same idea and the man gets promoted. Who's to blame? THE WOMAN!! She let her idea be stolen instead of calling attention to the source. Why? Because she's unsure of herself to begin with and doesn't want to appear selfish, territorial, confrontational, or not a team player. Every time you give away an idea, you give away a little of your self - respect. Do this enough times and your self confidence begins to dwindle immeasurably...

How do you remedy this?

Get in the habit of asking a question after expressing an idea. I.E. "My recommendation is that we prioritize our solutions and select the top two for immediate implementation. Are there any objections to getting to work on this immediately?" This increases the likelihood of acknowledgement and discussion.

When someone tries to propose something you've already suggested (even if its slightly different) say this: "It looks like you're building on my original suggestion, and I would certainly support that." That way they know that you know what's up!

Speak directly, prominently and confidently! Don't assume that you are being overlooked for being a woman, it could just because you aren't asserting yourself enough...

Whenever possible and appropriate, put your ideas in writing. It gives them a credibility that spoken word lacks, and reminds people where the ideas came from...

Its unfortunate but true that there are few people that you can trust in the business world, so guard your ideas carefully and find that one person that you know very well, love and trust to bounce ideas off of... You don't want to learn this lesson the hard way. Trust me, I have!!

Oh! And one last thing, don't kill yourself being paranoid that everyone is going to steal your ideas, someone is probably already thinking the same as you, making ideas happen is what's most important!!

I hope this helps ladies!
Shay,
xoxo

Melissa Keklak: Woman with a Story...

3 Women have something to say Links to this post
Ever thought about moving to away, working in PR and travelling coast to coast producing events and schmoozing with celebs?? Well not only did Melissa think about it, she did it and she is doing a hell of a job!! Considered one of the Top Rising Stars in her field, Melissa accepted an in-house PR Manager position at CASIO in 2007 becoming the youngest manager in the company and since then has continued to make moves in the industry... What did I learn from Melissa?

The PR profession boils down to how well you network and how good of a connector you are...

Very True!

Melissa's story;

20s/30s/40s?
20s

Zodiac sign:
Leo

Education:
BA, Communications with a concentration in Public Relations , University of Scranton. International Communications certification, Italy.

Where were you born? Raised? Live now?
Born in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, raised in Poconos, Pennsylvania, still living in Poconos, Pennsylvania when I am not traveling.

Single or Taken?
Single

First job ever:
At 14 I was hired as a prep cook for Every body's Cafe

First “real” job:
Public Relations Project Coordinator for Winning Strategies, LLC

Clockwise from the top left: Kathy Hilton, Dawn Richards, XXX of BET, Kimora Lee Simmons, Terrence J & Kanye West

Your 5 "must haves" of the moment?
My sister Milinda, scarves, patience, my blackberry and the gym.

Melissa & her sister Milinda!

What are you currently listening to?
I LOVE anything that Akon sings or is featured on, Jadakiss, Keyshia Cole, Flo Rida, Alicia Keys and Jupiter Rising.

So what do you do?
I am the Public and Celebrity Relations Manager for Casio America, Inc.

Take us along the path (personal & professional) that took you where you are today.
I originally was going to college to become a lawyer when my public speaking professor said I was headed down the wrong career path and convinced me to switch to Communications, I did and not even a month later she asked me to be the President of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), from there I grew to love public relations and wanted to get out and start my career as quick as possible. I started off as a Project Coordinator for a small firm in Newark, NJ, in which I commuted over 2.5hrs. each way everyday and dreaded it. Soon there after I was offered an Account Executive position with The Sherry Group in Morristown, which cut down my commute time and also introduced me into consumer and lifestyle public relations. After being with that firm for some time I was ready to move corporate and have more responsibility in PR, I went in to do my first interview with Casio, then after being asked to wait outside, they asked me if they could conduct another interview with the Chairman of the company, so I did and then on my way I went. I was not even 5 miles down the road when they called me back and asked if I could turn around and come back to Casio, so I did and HR sat me down and offered me the position. Soon after accepting the new position with Casio I was recognized as one of PR Week's Top Ten Rising Stars in PR under 30 years old, as I had accomplished a successful media track record and ability to grow within the industry at record pace. I have been at Casio ever since and have expanded my role into assisting with event planning and management, styling, celebrity seeding and events, as well as the celebrity and public relations management I was initially brought in for.

Melissa at the 2009 BET Awards

What’s the toughest thing you’ve been faced with thus far?
Keeping it moving when the going got tough. When I began my position with The Sherry Group, it was not soon into my career there that I had lost my mother suddenly. I was devastated. Regardless of any hardships my mother was facing or issues her and I may have faced, she was always so very PROUD of me. She would tell anyone and everyone of my accomplishments. She would be the first one to alert the newspaper if I did something she thought was amazing and then that was gone. For me, after getting out of college and pursuing Public Relations, I just wanted to keep moving up and making great career moves because I knew how proud she would be to see me do it all on my own. Then, after loosing that support system, I was lost. My motivation was gone, everyday felt like a daze, I spent many a time in the company bathroom in tears and I did not know how I was going to keep doing the great things she always knew me to do without having the praise/appreciation I knew I could always count on. I thought the depression I was in was never going to end and that I would never be able to really "make it" like I had wanted to because my strength and determination felt like it had left with her. After some time, I was able to do listen to the advice from others. Many said, take the negative and turn it into a positive or Melissa do not look at this as a stumbling block but a stepping stone. So, I began to put more effort into my career because I knew at the end of the day, that would make her happy and ultimately, I would weather this storm and I would be happy that I was able to accomplish such great things in my career despite my heartbroken loss. I am happy to sit here writing to you today and say that I made it through that terrible time and although I think and miss her often, I use her loss as a catalyst to make the most of myself and the career I love because I know she is still proud, looking down.

What did your parents want you to be?
I studied voice and did musical theater growing up so they always thought I would end up being some sort of performer, whether it was singing, dancing or acting.

Clockwise from the top left: Nick Cannon, Ben Baller, Ja Rule, Brent Bolthouse and Kevin Connolly

What’s the best piece of advice you were ever given?
"Be understanding to your perceived enemies. Be loyal to your friends. Be strong enough to face the world each day. Be weak enough to know you cannot do everything alone. Be generous to those who need your help."

What advice do you have for women who want to follow in your footsteps?
The same advice my college professor gave to me- the PR profession is all about how well you network and how good of a connector you are, it's a tough industry to get started in but once you do, you can only progress. When starting out in this career you need to push your foot through that door and take what is offered to you. At first, you cannot be picky, you need the experience, you need to get connected within the industry and you most importantly have to establish yourself as a player in this profession. The first job you accept may not be the most glamorous, it may not be exactly what you would like to be doing, as mine was not, but if you stick with it you can only go up from there. Women are great relationship builders and connectors and if you are hungry enough you will make it far into your career and eventually be sitting exactly where you wanted from the beginning, you just have to use your patience and know that there is a climb to get to the top.

What's next?
Haa ha. Isn't that always what we women are asking ourselves? It's like, ok, did this-check, now what? We are constantly conquering and gearing up for the next challenge. I have seen myself not only enjoy the entertainment/event/celebrity part of my PR position but it has also become a craft for me. I love working with the stylists and building out events and I also love fostering relationships with key influencers and celebrities. On the other hand I have a passion for the fashion and music world so ideally, combining the two is what I ultimately would like to work towards next. Oh- and a little more ME time. Any PR professional knows that we are on-call 24-7 and working 7 days a week, sometimes when months have a lot going on, you get so absorbed you do not have time to do for you, so I also need to work on taking more time to keep myself in check.
Melissa has done a great job at putting CASIO in the right hands. Pun Intended!
Pictured above: Fergie, John Legend, Laurie Ann Gibson, Jada Kiss, Usher and Bobby Valentino

Where do you see yourself in 5 years... 10 years?
In five years- moved. I am ready for new places and may---be by that time Mr. Right has found me and I will be engaged but I still see myself doing the career I LOVE so much. In 10 years? Oh wow, well, hopefully far enough along in my career that I have other people doing a lot of the running and traveling so that I can switch to a slower track and be less stressed and enjoying personal time and maybe by that time married to the Mr. Right that found me five years prior. :)

And lastly… In your opinion, What do Women Want??
What don't we want???? In my personal opinion, women want to be complimented so to be reminded that they still have it together and going on. We want to be seen equally and just as capable in handling things, time for ourselves every once in a while because we are always putting our needs last to everyone else we care about, an equal balance between our personal and professional life, an unexpected present, good laugh, good cry, nice bottle of wine, relaxing evening in the bath and our favorite ice cream when we need it most!

Thanks Melissa!

Beauty: Smashbox Cream Eyeliner

6 Women have something to say Links to this post

Ok so every few months or so, I go to Shoppers Drugmart and spend a bunch of $$$ on girl stuff... Soaps, scrubs, tampons, facial cleanser, makeup, makeup remover, makeup remover pads, body wash, body spray, nail polishes that I'll never use lolol... etc. etc. etc.

Anyhee, my most recent visit yield a great find! Cream eyeliner by Smashbox!! I love it because it glides on like Buttah and you don't need as much of a steady hand and it looks more prominent and stays on much longer than liquid eyeliner. They used cream eyeliner on our eyes for the Black Affair Photo Shoot and they also used it in us for the Brazen Hussy Fashion Show... See how good it looks in the pic below! What do you think of cream eyeliner and do you use it??

Oh yah! You'll have to get a brush to apply the eyeliner but they are really cheap... $10-$15 tops!

Name: Scarlett Johansson

Scarjo said: “If you're comfortable with yourself, then it's sexy. Maybe people think I look sexy because I feel sexy. I am a very liberated person that way. I'm very comfortable with my sexuality, my body, my face - well, sometimes I'm not comfortable with my face, but it's stuck there and there's nothing I can do about it”

I say: I swear I was the last to jump on the Scarjo bandwagon. At first, I actually thought that she was unattractive... but after the "What Goes Around Comes Around" video I saw what people were talking about... her comfortability with herself, her beauty and sexuality drove me wild! Seriously! And she's no Super Model - her beauty comes from within... I know I've been sounding like a broken record when it comes to this stuff... but I can't say it enough because there are so many girls who don't know this...

Relationships: Long distance relationships...

8 Women have something to say Links to this post

Long distance relationships... We've all been in them or known someone who's done it...

Do you think that they are worth the time spent on the phone? The road trips and flights?? Does absence really make the heart grow fonder???

I've done it twice - the first was when I had just moved to Toronto and my BF came 6months after... we saw each other 3 times during that period and talked on the phone every day... To me that was worth it because it was a temporary situation that had a final solution (him moving to Toronto). But the second long distance relationship was totally different. He lived in NYC, I lived here and I liked it... As most of you know, the life that I live in TO doesn't work well for most relationships... going out a lot and knowing a lot of people can backfire, so having that guy who you get to see for a week or two at a time once or twice a month is perfect! You don't have the same all up in your business drama that comes with dating a guy from the same city... Its easier to get your work done, and its easier to focus on furthering yourself and your career...

The downsides??

Some dudes (and chicks) don't consider it cheating if y'all aren't in the same State, Province or Time Zone... So keep that in mind

Its easier for a dude or a girl to hide who they really are from you...

PS - if you are wondering what happened with me and dude from NY?? The recession hit, he got laid off and the regular flights back and forth became out of the question... plus I didn't like him that much... he was a Pisces... Pisces and Pisces are a No Go... I wonder if he's gonna read this (lol) Well the one person who is gonna read this is my old boss and he's gonna realize my trips to New York weren't just about my love for the city... hahahah - oh well... I care, but I just don't give a f&$%! hahahahah

Have a good one!
Shay xoxo

If there is no final direction then there's a problem... you can't do the long distance thing forever... one of you has to move or its not gonna work... IMO anyway...
