11 Women have something to say Links to this post

Fae over at Savoire Faire gave us the heads up on this...

She thought that it was "fitting" considering our recent Relationship Post... You are right on the money girl!

If he don't love you by now he will NEVER ever love you... nuff said...

Ladies, what do you think of the vid??

Shannae sez:

"LaToya sent me this song a while back and let me tell u... I was NOT feeling it... But now that I'm seeing the video, the song has stepped up a few notches.... BUT with that said, Miss Ciara, you definitely have your work cut out for you this go around... I don't mean to be harsh, but I can't see this album being as successful as your albums of the past... I am rooting for you - so please prove me wrong girl!!"

Music Post by LaToya: New Single by Chrisette Michelle - Epiphany

3 Women have something to say Links to this post

Epiphany - Chrisette Michelle

I know I'm at least 48 hours late on this, but Chrisette Michelle's sophomore album is on its way! I remember the first time I heard her sing... "Sorry I'm a champion" longside Jay-Z. No need for the apology lady, I was diggin you from jump. She is original, luvs it!

Her latest single is titled Epiphany  (defn. a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience).

And the song starts simply - just like the definition.

And then it comes to me, like an epiphany
(she whispers)

Considering the topic, the music is surprisingly humbling as opposed to angry.  I love how she repeats "It's over" not as a woman scorned but as a woman relieved. Its almost as if her misfortune took to her to a better place. I'm sure many of us wish we could feel the same at times...

Anyhoo, the album is rumored to come out in Spring '09.

Enjoy...

Relationship Post: How soon is too soon??

34 Women have something to say Links to this post

So after much thought and deliberation, I've decided to embark on unchartered territory...

The touchy and very personal topic of INTIMACY... (a first in the history of the What Women Want Blog)

My girl Tanya and I were discussing intimacy, how short or long one should wait and how that affects whether you are girlfriend or boyfriend material.

Needless to say, the convo got a lil "spicy"

This is my position;

1.  There is no right  or wrong time to do "it".  Whether it be 6 years, 6 months, 6 weeks, 6 days or 6 hours, do it when you are comfortable and it feels right.

2. Waiting doesn't guarantee you a damn thang... If there's no spark, he'll still drop yo ass even if you waited six decades to give it up.  If the chemistry is there, it will develop into a relationship - and if its not, it won't... Period. Creating  "rules" and "timelines" are a waist of time and make you look seem like Laura Ingles from Little House on the Prairie if I can say so myself.  A guy knows within his heart what kind of girl you are - period.  If it happens really quick and you say that "you've never done it before", dude will believe you if your truthfulm and dude will also catch your sorry ass if your lyin cuz he'll be able to pick up on your overall energy and put two and two together... Either that, or the other "dudes" that you did it right away with will rat your ass out - Cuz you done know that "gents" talk just as much, if not MORE than "ladies" do... Moving on...

3. Rushing it will mess up your program... It makes you look crazy and desperate... If it happens early, make sure its not because you forced it... because if that's the case you'll be ass out... Literally - lol...  Tupac couldn't have said it better with "I don't want it if its that easy..."

4. I am COMPLETELY AGAINST casual encounters, relationships, intimacy or anything of the sort.  It messes with your mind, your perception and it is a complete waist of time and energy that you could be spending finding your true soul mate. [this is where I'm sure many will disagree]

At the end of the day, it boils down to this... Doing it right away, waiting forever, or going with something in between doesn't guarantee you a thing... the key is to figure out BEFORE you become intimate whether you are on the same page... weather it be a casual thing with no strings attached, or a lasting relationship. Once you know what your mutual goals are - you are good to go...

But let me say one thing in closing:  From my personal experience (and probably the same for many others), when you do wait it deepens the relationship. If you start out with a friendship first and get enough of the foundations in place to feel very safe with each other as people and then add the passion, knowing the attraction is there, the richness of the experience is something different from anything else you'll ever experienced.

Ewwwww! I feel totally awkward now...   Next subject!

xoxo

PS - There is no WAY that I am gonna dish all of this dirt and have nobody comment... I am expecting some interaction on this one - straight up!! Ladies, let me know if you feel me or not... and to the GUYS that come on here and post "Anonymous" we value your opinion and would love to have your male perspective.

i.e.  Is a girl a TRAMP if she gives it up right away? Is a girl an IDIOT for trying to wait? Is it something in bewtween? Guys, what do you think of a girl that does each scenario (waits and doesn't wait) - Girls, how have you felt after doing one, the other, or a combo of both?

PPS - Feel free to use the anonymous on this one... I'm not tryna put anyone's situation on blast...

PPPS - I saw this article on the subject, it touched perfectly on all of the areas I wanted to discuss so I borrowed excerpts from it...

So it turns out that shopping isn't ALL that bad... According to Fab Sugar and The Fashion Bomb, you won't have to feel as guilty about pulling out your plastic if you get the same Tee as Bey, because by picking up a Public Library Samburu Hope Tee you are helping an organization that provides clean drinking water and community empowerment to the families of the Samburu District, Kenya.

A portion of all sales generated through this  tee will go DIRECTLY to The Samburu Project.

Gotta Love that!

Music Post by LaToya: Latonya Blige DaCosta to release an Album

1 Women have something to say Links to this post
(photo from Runway News Interview)

If you think she looks familiar, you are right...

Pictured above is LaTonya Blige DaCosta, the older sister to the Queen of R&B (Mary J. Blige) and her album "How I Feel in the Spirit" is scheduled to be released later this year. I remember hearing rumors that her sister was her hair stylist but, if that is true, she was that and so much more. LaTonya is also a song writer and Co-managed Mary's career.

I heard a clip or two from the upcoming album. I am not positive but, I think that it is going to be a Gospel compilation. According to LaTonya it is "inspirational music". I guess we are going to have to wait and see just what that means.

Ladies Ink... Women Tattoos

15 Women have something to say Links to this post

I'm a sucker for a sweet tat... They're hard core and sexy at the same time and I LOVE IT!!

I personally have 3 and I have been on the hunt for a fourth and during my search I thought that I would give my readers a quickie lesson on tattoos 101...

Below are pics of some of my favorite tattooed ladies... Vicky B, Rih Rih, Eve, Miss Fox, Eva and Nicole Richie...

For those of you on the hunt for a sexy tat, here are some things to consider:

Does it hurt?  Ummm Hell to the Yah!! I have one on my lower back and that hurt bad.  It feels like a really annoying hot scratching feeling.  I also have one on my ankle and one on my wrist - those actually didn't hurt at all (but they are also really small).  I think that if you get a tattoo against a boney area of your body it hurts more... but its worth it in the end cuz you can wear your tat with pride!

Do your research! I got a tattoo on my wrist on impulse and although I love my wrist tattoo very much, I feel a bit of "tattoo regret" when I see other chicks with doper wrist tattoos than mine.  That would have never happened to me if I did my homework. Make sure you find the right tattoo, studio and artist... Referral from someone you trust are the best (for obvious reasons) and make sure you get something that will have eternal meaning for you... I wouldn't recommend getting a tattoo of a fad and I would advise against getting a tattoo of a brand. (Just think how all them dudes with the Nike Swoosh tattoos are feeling right about now - lol )

How much does it cost? They are actually pretty inexpensive when you consider their permanence and beauty... But to give you specifics... the tattoo on my wrist is the size of a Toonie and that was about $50, I have a small star on my ankle and that was about $35 and I have a symbol of infinity on my back the size of a hot dog and that was just over $100.

I found this great tattoo gallery with some examples and here are some great tattoo FAQs.

And a big fat shout out goes to my girls Allison, Daniele K, Jen, Daniela, Ashley and Yvonne for rocking their tatts like its hot!

Ladies... tell me about your tattoos and any pointers that you may have...

Toodles!!

Recap of Episode 6 of The City! "He Never Said He had a Girlfriend"

9 Women have something to say Links to this post

Ok, so this episode of The City is fittingly titled He Never Said He Had a Girlfriend.   During this episode the drama continues over Adam's kiss, the boys throw an Art show at Collective Hardware where everyone (including Catarina - the girl he kissed) shows up. Why did she show up?? I have NO IDEA...  Catarina confronts Allie at the Art Show and gives her the lowdown on what went down the night her and Adam kissed. Allie confronts Adam, not before storming out of the art show in tears and Adam continues to deny the whole thing.  At the end, Allie gives in and takes Adam back. This all happens while Whitney and Jay are caught in the middle.

Next show, apparently Kelly Cutrone disses Allie for being too skinny...

Below is a video of some of the ish that went down this episode so that you can follow along with ease:

Here is my synopsis;

Allie Crandell - You were very emo in this episode and understandably so, but listen to me. ADAM CHEATED - you need to either dump him and move on or you need to recognize and move forward with caution.  I say, recognize and move forward.  By the looks of it, he is never going to admit to it, but me (and the rest of America) can see that he loves you to bits and pieces.... Is he sorry for it?  I don't know...  Will it happen again?? Prolly... But boyz will be boyz and you live in the NYC, so a rando drunken kiss should be the least of your worries..

PS -  You can watch Allie's infamous Diesel Ad  HERE.

Adam Senn - sorry dude, you're taking this ish too far - just admit that you f'd up and keep it moving.... Actually, I take that back... deny till you die, because you know Allie will punish you for life if you admit it, but never do that ish again... I am sure that it was just a drunkin kiss  and its obvious that you love her very much. (PS - who's the dirty blond that you were talking to at the Art Opening... please don't tell me that she's another side chick) - Allie is a Leo and you are an Aries - that is a match made in Heaven, those are hard to come by dude... Also - I couldn't help but laugh when Jay asked you again about the situation, when y'all were in the liquor store. You looked at him like - Dude.... why the F are you asking me this ish on camera.... I thought we had an understanding... - And oh yah...  I love your puppy dog "please forgive me" swag... but yo duuuuude your totally lying and you know it... But in a way I kinda love how you are ride or die with your lie.. lol

Whitney Port -  First off...  From Woman to Woman - Whitney, you CAN'T go to work with your hair lookin mad scraggly like that... You work at DVF girl! They will fire your ass! Secondly....  You, Erin and Sammy are adding to the drama - take a hint from Olivia and Mind your own! And I totally peeped you lowering your head in shame as Catarina was dishing the ish to Allie at the art show.... Girl!!! What did you think was gonna happen! That's why you need to chill out and exit from this situation... you are making it worse! And now you are trying to drag Jay down into the mix - that is relationship suicide right there - PS - MTV - I am not impressed with how you tricked us with the "I don't like liars" clip... that isn't really even how it went down...  PPS - Your Art Show outfit is so cute - I loove the head band!

Catarina - why on Earth would you show up to the Art Show!! You're an ish disturber - straight up -  you know that Adam is a cheater and he does not care about your ass, so just stand down, stay in your  lane and keep it moving...

Jay Lyon (Aka Brent) - Not too much to say about you in this episode other than these two things.  First - You are right, why is Whitney getting all worked up about this?  Its none of her business!! Second - you're quote during your "heated debate" with Whit Whit was priceless!  "This is New York - I don't put anything past anyone!" Tru dat yo!!

Olivia Palermo and her cousin Nevan - Nevan, you and your dirty white shoes need to lock your mouth and roll bounce... You really think that you are too good to be hanging out with that "downtown" hipster crowd don't you... well you got it wrong home bwoi... You aren't good ENOUGH... remain silent until you find a job... Onto Olivia - I can't hate - you give good advice.  You are right, that whole art show fiasco was ridiculous and Whitney was giving you "too much info" - But that DOES NOT mean that she should trade in her friends for some stuck up Up Town folks... Speaking of which, where are all of these "friends" that you are supposed to have... I've only seen you with smelly dirty white shoes Nevan...  PS - you always come to work looking on point... kudos to you for that.

Overall impression of this show:  I liked it!  And I can't wait until next Monday!

Random Info and Thoughts...

Today Allie told the official MTV After Show that her and Adam have been together for almost two years and they met at a lounge in New York.  She said that they are not engaged but he gave her a promise ring that she wears on her commitment finger....

Yo... Did you see how all of the girls were crying up in the Art Show at one point?? I was like OMG....  this is ridunculous!!! Come on now!!

PS, for those of you that are interested, Cameron (Stephanie's Pratt's ex boyfriend) is suing MTV  because apparently Spencer Pratt knocked him out in the club or something like that... lol..

Toodles!

Relationships & Music by LaToya: Estelle - More than friends...

11 Women have something to say Links to this post

Alright, I have to admit that I have sleepin on this girl. I heard  “American Boy”, thought it was alright but, I didn’t give her a chance at all. Estelle is a perfect combination of “the Songstress” and “the Floacist”. I’m so impressed that both flows were discovered in one person. I would hate to have to find another sound that is so Floetic. She’s got a timeless style! Her beats and yaahd vibe took me back to my daddy’s vinyl, lol.

More Than Friends…

I have a good friend who is going through a similar situation. For over a year, her relationship has consisted of tiptoeing, whispering, and secrets. Although the occasional tap when they are amongst their friends gives her butterflies, eventually you get immune to them. It gets boring. After the boredom, all it does is breed insecurity:

Is he embarrassed of me?
Am I not good enough?
IS THERE SOMEONE ELSE?

If you are so unsure of your arrangement that you do not have the confidence to label your relationship without permission – chances are the feelings are not mutual! Normally, there are exceptions to most rules. But, I feel this is the only rule for situations like these.

I love my girl to death! Being that she is a sister Aquarian, I OVERSTAND her loyalty! I hope for the day where her insecurities turn to empowerment. When her questions turn into:
Why do I care what he thinks of me?
Why do I look to him for my importance?
WHAT AM I PRETENDING NOT TO KNOW?

The choice is yours lady. All that is unsure always comes to an end! Regardless of how long that may take or if I am around to see it happen at all, I am here for you. The day that we can go clubbing and bump like it’s no ones bizness to this song will be the happiest day of my life for you! Not because of regret, but, because you finally acknowledge the beauty I have always seen in you.

Shannae sez:

Love this post LaToya!
If you don't love yourself first, noone else will!

Regarding your questions above, here are my answers;

Is he embarrassed of me? YES
Am I not good enough? Not in his eyes so BUMP Him!
IS THERE SOMEONE ELSE? Girl?!?!  Of course there is!!
First off: What do y'all think of the song??

And second: Ladies, do you have a "more than friends" story and if so how did you break free, or how are you handling it??

Thanks for giving your two cents Toya!  You're becoming a pro!

Remember, you can email music post suggestions to LaToya at naturalbeauty.lli@gmail.com...

And be sure to tune in tonight for my recap of Episode 6 of The City!!

Melanie Moncrieffe - More than meets the eye...

0 Women have something to say Links to this post

Hey Ladies!!

I am sooo excited to introduce to you one of the latest segments of the What Women Want Blog... More Than Meets the Eye! (AKA... MTMTE) - There is so much more than meets the eye for all of us ladies and I think that this new installment of the Blog is an excellent way to celebrate these distinct talents and differences that we all have...

MTMTE are new posts that I will be doing about "that girl" that you see around, looks intriguing and you'd love to learn more about her but you are too afraid to ask! lol... That happens to me ALL the time (I know, I'm nosey! lol), so I decided to create MTMTE to feed that hunger to all of you out there that are so inclined... I feel that the books that we read and the things that we can't live without say a lot about us, so that is what I'll be asking all of our MTMTE ladies...

So here she is... our very first!

Mel M. doesn't know this, but I first peeped her stylish hiney @ the club one night and I thought that her mustard top and cherry red lips were killer!  I kept on peeping her in different random spots after that and then I made up my mind that I wanted to get to know her better... There is definitely more than meets the eye with this young lady!  Here is a bit more about her...

Miss Melanie (a Cancer) is a student at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus currently completing a Specialist Degree in Visual Communication, Culture and Information Technology and a Minor in Professional Writing. She is also a Makeup Artist, loves to read, write and is passionate about music and fashion. After she finishes school, she hopes to write for a magazine and Mel is a family oriented person with beautiful sisters, and a brother on the way!

Her favorite Book - Pride and Prejudice

"I first read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice in the 10th grade. Although the social comedy is set in the English country side during the 17th century, I found it spoke in a profound way to the romantic follies of many young women in our generation. The protagonist, Elizabeth was always falling for man she couldn't have and the men that wanted her she was uninterested in. After reading the book for a second time, I realized how ingenious Austen's characters were. She skillfully weaves each person into a bounded web of attraction, where love and acceptance becomes something to fight for. And yet it is pride and prejudice, which should be regarded as unimportant, that keeps them apart. Such is true to many modern relationships where love is lost due to class, race and foolish pride."

Mel can't live without...

"I have a vintage Chanel Black Lambskin Quilted Tote. My Aunty gave it to me a year ago, and it goes with absolutely everything I have. Chanel bags are timeless, the bag is about 15 years old :)"

THANKS MELANIE! YOU ARE WHAT WOMEN WANT!!

PS - Wondering where "Woman With a Story" is?  Its still here and its going strong!! The ladies that do the interviews put so much time and effort into the posts and I also put a lot of time and effort into putting them together, so I think its only fair to give their stories a little more than one week of shine.... So stay tuned, cuz we have some upcoming Women's stories that you'll love! We've got a High Fashion Stylist, a Universal/Motown Recording Artist, A Celebrity Photographer and Event Planner just to name a few!

Toodles for now and look out for more updates today and my recap of "The City" later tonight!!
