I watched the season that Fantasia won. I loved her from DAY 1! After seeing her first performance, I said to myself, even if she doesn't win, someone will scoop her!! Her voice is so unique and she is so passionate! How many times did we see Fantasia fall to her knees or cry singing a rendition of another's song much less her own? Someone with that kind of heart is perfect for the role of Cellie of 'The Color Purple' - one of my favorite movies!!!
All that said, I have to also admit that there were many times that I saw her and I think now after watching this clip that I wrongly judged her behavior/appearance. I truly chopped her up as a ghetto girl who don't know how to act (I know I'm terrible). I don't know how many examples I need in life to not judge a book my its cover but, this was another one.
Another part of this video that really struck a nerve was this:
"A woman without a high school diploma, who's success has almost been solely based on her ability to sing!"
Based on Fantasia's interview it seems as though she was riding the Blessed wave of success but despite that was able to humble herself and go back to school. I wonder if those throat tumors were a reminder that there was still something that she needed to do for herself before her singing could take her to the top.
It really is never too late and I admire her for being able to take a few steps back before going forward. We have not seen her peek yet, I feel it coming.
6 Women have something to say:
Fantasia is great! It's easy to write her off (I'm sure people have been doing that her whole life) and I was def one of those people.
Two things happened to change my thoughts about her: 1.) I watched her life story (that movie where she played herself) and 2.) I had the opportunity to work with her during a difficult time for her. The movie especially gave a good background on where she came from and how she ended up where she is today. She definitely hasn't had the easiest life but it seems she's really tried to push through despite the circumstances (rape, illiteracy, cr-zazy family members etc) to be successful and raise her daughter well.
Whoa.. that's a tear jerker.... I keep saying to myself that anything can happen anytime... but two tumers that's so scary!!! and did I hear them say something about 23 stitches???
Yes, it was a tear jerker for true! You never know what someone is going through and what they may do to mask their pain.
23 tattoos is what you heard.
@TNF, I'd like to watch that movie... What is it called?
Hey!
The movie was made for tv that aired on Lifetime and called: Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story
